REMEMBERING JIM MARSHALL

HEARTBREAK IN THE HEART OF DIXIE? 🐘 🐅

Anyone who knows the drama that is Auburn football knows most of it is self-inflicted. After the failed Brian Harsin experience, Auburn experienced a Freeze Warning. Now, entering Year 3, he’s more on the hot seat than anything else. Yes, transforming styles, personnel, formation and pure disaster is not a one-year process. Compounding to that, the world of NILs and Transfer Portals has fully created a new brand of college football - most are still getting used to.

Now what’s interesting, their arch rivals might be in a similar situation. After the retirement of Nick Saban (for the above mentioned situations), Kalen Debor came in and took over the Tide. Year 1 was not bad at all, going 9-4. Oh, that’s for about 97% of the nation. This is Alabama we are talking about and more-so, their fane base. Their floor is now expected to be above most team’s ceiling.

Alabama ended the season missing out on the College Football Playoffs and in embarrassingly fashion, dropped the Reliaquest Bowl to Michigan, 13-19. Auburn finished 5-7, not even qualifying for a bowl game.

Now the pressure cooker is on high. For both Head Coaches. Like it or not. Agree with it or not. This is college football in the Deep South. Put up results or get out. Hugh Freeze took to the portal bringing in Jackson Arnold from Oklahoma (QB) and Eric Singleton Jr. (WR) from Georgia Tech who should help improve the offense. Though, as Tantor has said, Singleton is really good at dropping the ball.

Alabama returns playmaker phenom Ryan Williams (WR) and has one of the best LT in college football in Kadyn Proctor. Former Johnny 5-Star, Ty Simpson most likely will inherit QB duties.

Both Dixieland schools open the season on the road with Florida State for the Tide and Baylor for the Tigers, neither a gimme. Not to mention the rigors of the SEC gauntlet. Both coaches need this to be a breakout year. Plain and simple.
