Chants Are Super Regional Bound

Coastal Carolina wins the Conway Regional

The awesomeness that is the College Baseball tournament proved itself again this weekend. Sixteen host schools, yet five of them lost their opening round game. The #1 and the #2 overall seeds did not advance out, in Vanderbilt and Texas.

For Coastal Carolina thew drew a now regular thorn in their side in the East Carolina Pirates. The Chants opened up Friday night, very late, with a 10-2 victory over Fairfield. Heavy storms pushed back the start of the game to a west coast start time.

Eight of the Chants earned at least one hit with Colby Thorndyke and Ty Dooley each going yard.

In the winners bracket, enter East Carolina. The Pirates pounded Florida 11-6 the day prior. East Carolina was up early 5-4. Then the 7th inning took place. With the bases full of Chants, Colby Thorndyke took the first pitch he saw and took it over the fence, giving Coastal an 8-4 lead. That opened the flood gates. Coastal Carolina went on to score 14 runs in the final 3 innings for the victory.

Thus, they returned Sunday night for a rematch. East Carolina for the second time in three days defeated the Florida Gators. This time by the score of 11-4.

Sunday turned out to be a pitchers dual as Freshman Bradley Zayac pitched the game of his life only allowing 1 run in 7.1 innings of work. Wells Sykes and his wheels may have just been the difference maker.

After singling to centerfield, Sykes tagged up from 1st and advanced to 2nd as Cade Bodine flew out. The Sykes took to 3rd on a wild pitch. From there, Sebastian Alexander sac flew to deep center allowing Sykes the easy tag up and ultimately score the games only run.

Dominick Carbone shut the door on the Pirates closing the game and earning the win, striking out three, including the game’s final batter. Hidden from the stat column was Riley Eikhoff who threw 7.1 scoreless innings for the Chanticleers.

Coastal Carolina at Auburn

A dream Krausse family matchup will become reality. While other hosts struggled to win, both Auburn and Coastal Carolina each swept their Region. Coastal Carolina now gets to travel at the loveliest village on the plains, drink some Toomer’s lemonade, get lunch at Mama G’s sign their name somewhere on a wall inside, while Chauncey rubs feathers with Aubie and Frank Thomas.
