EYE OF THE HURRICANE 🌀 🏴☠️
Summer is officially here in the sports world. The summer calendar is by far the lightest. In the world of College Football, Media Days begin shortly after the 4th of July. Pro Baseball is the only major sport going on. Soccer has two different tournaments going on right now - FIFA Club World Cup and the Gold Cup. The Wimbledon draw is Friday. The NBA Draft is tonight. And Churchill Downs has its final runs of their season this weekend.
CHURCHILL DOWNS FINAL RUN OF THE SEASON 🏇
Headlined by the Stephen Foster, this weekend is Churchill Downs’ final weekend of their 2025 season.
Fast-forward to Race 7 - Fleu de Lis Stakes. Thorpedo Anna tries to reclaim her dominance after her streak ended last time out, where jockey Brian Hernandez could tell she was not running well and let her cruise in the finish line, finishing dead last. She is now racing other 4 and 5 year olds in a 1 1/8 mile course where the winner brings home $500,000.
Race 11 - The Stephen Foster is the headline race of the day. $1,000,000 to the winner. 3YM Horse of the Year - Sierra Leone will have heavy competition in this 4+ race, including Mystic Dan (Kentucky Derby champion), and Mindframe just from his own age level. Much less, others older than him.
Then on Sunday at 3:18 you’ll find the Bashford Manor Stakes, featuring a very early look at the 2YM division.
FRESHMAN HEADLINE NBA DRAFT CLASS 🏀
Freshman could very well headline tonight’s NBA Draft. Everyone expects the first freshman to be taken with the first pick overall, Duke’s Cooper Flagg heading to Dallas. Other Freshman looking to hear their named called early include:
Dylan Harper, Rutgers
Tre Johnson, Texas
Ace Bailey, Rutgers
VJ Edgecomb, Baylor
Kon Knueppel, Duke
Kasparas Jakuionis, Illinois
Final Four MVP Walter Nolan from Florida should hear his named called in the first round as well. And the old man in the room, Johni Broome, experts believe he will go early in the 2nd round. Also from the Plains, Auburn’s Dylan Cardwell could be picked up in the late 2nd round, currently ranking ahead of notable players such as Mark Sears from Alabama, Vlad Goldin of Michigan and Will Richard of Florida. VCU’s Max Shulga is currently listed as 63rd on the CBS Sports Big Board.
